Stars Battle Strike Threat

More than 130 stars including George Clooney, Cameron Diaz and Charlize Theron have signed an open letter pleading with a union not to stage an actors strike next year.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is due to ballot its members next month to authorise industrial action in an ongoing row with leading Hollywood studios and TV networks over royalty payments.

Cardholders of the 120,000-strong SAG rejected a three-year deal offered by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) earlier this year, and union bosses will now ballot members over a walkout which could cripple the upcoming awards season.

Now more than 130 leading actors have signed a letter - written by Danny DeVito’s wife Rhea Perlman - to officials at the SAG to call off the vote.

Stars including Glenn Close, Eva Longoria Parker, Tom Hanks, Tobey Maguire and Morgan Freeman have all put their name to the document, which was sent on Monday.

The letter reads: “We support our union and we support the issues we are fighting for, but we do not believe now is the time to be putting people out of work.”

SAG is pushing for more money for actors when their work is released on DVD, plus a greater say in the endorsement of products on-air.

No Diaz on Broadway

Don’t expect Cameron Diaz to break into song in front of the footlights anytime soon.

The actress, who will reprise her role as Princess Fiona in the fourth animated Shrek film in 2010, has ruled out joining the musical version of the cult tale on Broadway.

“What they do up there … is, to me, impossible,” Diaz told the Associated Press at Sunday night’s opening of Shrek The Musical at the Broadway Theatre – where the crowd included America Ferrera, Rosie Perez, Ben Stiller, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Phylicia Rashad and Joan Rivers.

And though she isn’t compelled to hop on stage and join the cast, Diaz, 36, says she’s a fan of the live show, which received generally warm reviews.

“It’s hilarious,” she said. “There’s so many laughs. It’s great to see all the actors playing it together, because when we do it for the animated [movies], we never see each other. We don’t work together.”

Scans from 1998 issue of Premiere

I have added scans from an old issue of Premiere magazine, dated back to December 1998. Cameron Diaz looks exquisite in this photo spread, and the interview is a good read as well. The scans are definitely worth a look. Please don’t re-post them at your own site/forum, as it took both money and time out of my day to get them. Thank you.

First still from “My Sister’s Keeper”

Two days ago, Warner Brothers studios released several new stills and official summaries from all their biggest movies coming out to cinemas next year. Featured among them were My Sister’s Keeper (in theaters June 26) and The Box (November 6)! You can now see a new still from the first mentioned flick in the gallery! Though it doesn’t provide us with any new information, it’s a cute photo which I think you’ll like. You can also read the official summaries on the movies’ individual pages or right below this sentence. ;)

My Sister’s Keeper
Sara and Brian live an idyllic life with their young son and daughter. But their family is rocked by sudden, heartbreaking news that forces them to make a difficult and unorthodox choice in order to save their baby girl’s life. The parents’ desperate decision raises both ethical and moral questions and rips away at the foundation of their relationship. Their actions ultimately set off a court case that threatens to tear the family apart, while revealing surprising truths that challenge everyone’s perceptions of love and loyalty and give new meaning to the definition of healing.

The Box
Norma and Arthur Lewis are a suburban couple with a young child who receive an anonymous gift bearing fatal and irrevocable consequences. A simple wooden box, it promises to deliver its owner $1 million with the press of a button. However, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world… someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the crosshairs of a startling moral dilemma and face the true nature of their humanity.

Cameron designs a lunchbox for charity

Cameron Diaz — along with other celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Colicchio and Salman Rushdie — has designed a lunch box to help benefit hunger relief. Called The Lunchbox Auction, all proceeds raised through sales of the creative designs will benefit the Food Bank for New York City and The Lunchbox Fund — which provides lunch to impoverished school children in South Africa.

Not surprisingly, Diaz’s creation is green-themed. One side depicts remnants of an environmental friendly lunch of whole foods and a metal fork. The other side shows a wasteful lunch: paper, plastic fork and cup, and a juice box. See photos of the lunchbox here!

The auction will go until December 18 — starting bids are at $100. Click here to learn more!
